The Legislation Unit’s functions and responsibilities are as follows:

    • Review and tallying  of the final version of the MT and EN drafts of primary and secondary legislation of  local legislation and transpositions of EU Directives and Implementing Regulations as proposed by all the Ministries/departments/entitites and agencies piloting the new legislation or the amendments;

    • Assistance and updating of aids to legal drafting to any drafters;

    • Processing of the relative legislation in preparation for publication on frame-maker;

    • Review of Impact Assessment Forms compiled by the drafters for both primary and secondary legislation  before they are submitted to Cabinet Office for approval in accordance to Cap. 512;

    • Review of Explanatory Notes as required in accordance to Cap 512;

    • Review of the final Committee Stage amendments submitted prior to Committee Stage of Bills with respect to new legislation and Amending Acts;

    • Attendance of  Committee Stage sittings concerning the Ministry;

    • Compilation and review of the Budget Estimates Implementation Bill;

    • Amendments effected to Acts were passed from the Third Reading Parliamentary process;

    • Regular consolidation and development of the website legislation.mt in accordance with EU requisites and  standards;

    • Enhancement of ELI projects on the website legislation.mt and related matters; and

    • Consortium Partners in relation to the development of the National Language Technology Platform https://www.nltp-info.eu/
